Pet Play

Also known as Animal Play

A sub-category of Role Play. Is a specific type of play where a person -usually the bottom side- acts and usually dresses like a specific animal. It’s common for the Top partner to take the Owner, Handler, Farmer or Trainer role. This play can be part of a larger power dynamic [like D/s or S/m] or can stand by itself.

Different sub-types within pet play are: pup play, pony play, kitten play, piggy play. Pet play may involve imitating the sounds of animals, crawling about on all fours, being hand-fed or petted, or wearing a collar. Each pet marks the play specific activities. During pony play, for example, a Trainer will train the pony to walk and canter; during pup play the Owner will teach tricks or give food in a bowl to their pet; in kitten play, the Handler will more likely to groom and playfully interact with their pet. Like all dynamics and roles, the extent of animals within pet play depends on the preferences of the participants.

A pet may wear masks, prosthetics or undergo bondage-based body modifications to more closely resemble the animal. Some of the gear used during the play might by fetishized; those include but are not limited to:

Bits: gags that you bite down on.
Cones: like the medical cones pets wear after surgery.
Masks or hoods: shaped like a animal's head.
Harnesses: to go around the chest.
Mitts and boots: shaped like paws.
Muzzles: to cover the mouth
Bodysuits: usually latex and patterned like a animal.
Cock sheaths: like a hollow dildo shaped like a dog’s [or other animal] penis that fits over a human’s genitals.

Just like age players don’t want to have sex with actual childrens, pet play enthusiasts don’t actually want to be animals or have sex with them. Many people enjoy animal play without connecting it to bestiality. It’s also worth mentioning that pet play it’s NOT the same as furries. While there is some overlap regarding the animalistic nature of both of it -and there is certainly overlap between those who are pets and those who are furries- pets and furries ARE NOT one and the same. Knowledgeable about these two say the best way to distinguish pets from furries is: pets are humans who like to embody the traits of animals and furries are “animals” who like to embody the traits of humans.
